How Can Joint Injections Help?

Injecting medications into the affected joint can improve mobility, reduce inflammation, and relieve pain. Injections are a regenerative medicine treatment that may be repeated as needed to achieve more long-term benefit. One injection may provide pain relief for up to several weeks or several months.

In some cases, local anesthetic is injected into the joint along with steroid medication. Most patients experience noticeable improvement in the joint within one to two days after an injection. There are very few side effects with joint injections.

What Types of Medications Are Injected into the Joint?

Depending on your treatment plan, Dr. Nini may inject the joint with saline solution, steroid medications, local anesthetic, or a combination.

PRP

Platelet-rich plasma is blood plasma with higher-than-normal concentrations of platelets. It is taken from your own blood, which is drawn in our office. PRP can reduce inflammation and relieve pain in many musculoskeletal disorders.

Hyaluronic Acid

This naturally-occurring substance is normally found in the fluid around the joint. It acts as a lubricant and shock absorber and helps the joint function properly. This treatment may be appropriate for patients with osteoarthritis of the knee.

Stem Cell Therapy

Dr. Nini uses stem cells to treat a variety of sports injuries and musculoskeletal conditions. This unique cell type has the ability to divide and duplicate itself and develop into other types of cells. Stem cells can be injected directly into the affected area.

A2M

Derived from processing your own blood, A2M functions to halt the progression of certain joint conditions, and the degradation of cartilage.

Do Joint Injections Hurt?

At Full Range Ortho, we perform joint injections painlessly. We use lidocaine, a numbing medication, to take the sting out of the shot and make treatment more comfortable for the patient. Treatment does not take long, and you can expect improvement within one to two days.

How Often Can Joint Injections Be Performed?

There is no set limit to the number of injections you can have to treat pain and inflammation of the joints. As part of a comprehensive treatment program, injections can be performed as often as necessary to manage your pain, reduce inflammation, increase mobility, and get you back in the game. Dr. Nini will instruct you on how often to come into the office for treatments.
